The survivor, Isabelle, is left to pick up the pieces, not only of her own life, but of the lives of the devastated husband and fragile son that the other woman, April, has left behind. Together, they try to solve the mystery of where April was running to, and why. As these three lives intersect, the book asks, How well do we really know those we love--and how do we forgive the unforgivable?

A mystery element in this novel keeps the plot propelled: just what was the accident victim doing in the middle of that country road in a dense fog? The plot is wrapped around themes of infidelity, grief, guilt, abandonment--all very emotionally powerful stuff, but this writer's talents aren't really up to handling it.

"Late one night, as both women are leaving their husbands to start new lives, Isabelle Stein accidentally kills April Nash in an unavoidable highway collision. Now terrified to drive and feeling guilty, Isabelle bikes past April's home, where she sees widower Charlie and nine-year-old Sam, who believes that Isabelle is an angel who will help him talk to his mum. A "touching story of loss and discovery" (Publishers Weekly), this heartfelt novel offers stunning descriptions of the Cape Cod setting and well-drawn, imperfect characters forced to rebuild themselves after tragedy. If you enjoy this tale of troubled families, look for the author's latest, Is This Tomorrow, which publishes in May." Pictures of You read like a Nicholas Sparks book, so his fans likely will love this book, too. For me, it was fine but not memorable.

This wasn't my kind of book. It wasn't believable - everything fell into place a little too neatly. Life isn't like that. It was predictable, syrupy - a few step above a romance novel.

A mysterious crash on a foggy highway forever alters two families' lives.

Costco's Pick for January 2011: "Richly developed characters who move fluidly through a well-paced plot.

"The story begins with two women running away from home. When their cars collide on a foggy highway, one is killed. The survivor, trying to heal herself, sets out to help the husband and child left behind by the deceased. Once their lives intersect, the unlikely trio fumble through questions of forgiveness, love, truth and what really matters.

"You may not love all of the characters who inhabit these pages, but you won't be let down if you decide to follow them on their journeys."
