Echo --- by Jack McDevitt --- McDevitt scores again: Science Fiction nicely done. The future setting in many ways resembles the present: talk shows; pizzas; romantic love. But in a way that might be labeled low-keyed or understated, McDevitt propells us into the future, thousands of years into the future, where his detective / mystery is set.. Easy to read. Impossible to put down .McDevitt is one smoooth writer. Read this novel and you’ll be heading to the bookshelf for more of McDevitt.

McDevitt is one on my favourite SF authors and he always delivers. While I do find the Benedict novels tend to follow the same formula in each novel, and this one was no exception, they are still an enjoyable read. Unlike the Acadamy novels, where McDevitt takes real chances, the Benedict novels are paint by numbers/by the book, which is not a bad thing. So don't expect anything new.

Structurally a good read, entertaining and quite a page turner, however interpersonal relationships of the characters were a bit flat which detracted.

A fascinating read. Echo is well-written and flows smoothly through the narrative, with a series of course corrections woven into the plot (I wouldn't go so far as to call them plot twists). Definitely one of the better sci-fi novels I've read in the past few years.
