Don't like narrator's voice. I think he's intended to sound gritty but he sounds like a smoker. Distracting. Better narrator in most recent Castle story.

I couldn't even get through the first CD, as the reader, Johnny Heller, is awful.

You actually don't have to be a fan of the show to like this book. As well, like the show, it shows the entire murder from the perspective of the cops so there is no foreshadowing or obtaining information before Nikki Heat. The ending is logical, as is getting there, but you don't have all the pieces until the final reveal. Some might say it is not the greatest mystery (it's not stellar for the genre) but it is entertaining. Like the series, Jamison Rook (the "reporter" based on Richard Castle) serves as comic relief to the seriousness of a murder and Nikki Heat is more *ahem* hard-assed (which Kate Beckett is in comparison, but she's more balanced with softer moments on the show), but in the book he is much more the impetuous child and less helpful... I mean, that's the only reason he's kept around (favours or no favours). And the sex scene was a bit of a let-down, though realistic. Overall, enjoyable but not stellar. PS: the Voice Artist did a fairly good job but it could become difficult to follow who was saying what in quick back-and-forths, despite the individual accents for each character.

Too bad the story doesn't live up to the title. The most exciting is when Detective Nikki wards off her attacker, providing the book's only steam. This cooler gets 2 of 10 stars.
