The English duo Goldfrapp are a shape-shifting band. Their debut, "Felt Mountain," was one of the best of the post-Portishead albums (I'm loathe to use the term trip-hop) and they probably could've continued in that vein, licensing out songs to soundtracks and high-end saloons. But they went in a more trashy pop direction with "Black Cherry" and on their third--and best-- album, they embrace glam disco. "Oh La La ," which echoes "Spirit in the Sky," "Number 1," and "Ride a White Horse" were all minor hits for them. A remix album called "We are Glitter" followed. They didn't stick with this sound though, going for a more pastoral, acoustic flavor on "Seventh Tree." "Supernature" was a 70s disco song, btw.
Good stuff - but techno dance isn't really my bag.
great dance music
So, you probably have already heard this band before on TV but you just don't know it. Many of their songs have been featured in commercials and television programs. The most recent song "Fly me away" is in a holiday Target commercial. Goldfrapp is a little rock and a whole lot techno and makes you want to dance. Alison Goldfrapp makes up the vocals for this band, and she has quite the range as she weaves seductive melodies. Staff picks 2006
