I'm listening to this one on Playaway, so I can't tell how close I am to the end, but it feels like it's been going on forever, and I can't wait for it to be over. Based on reviews I just read, I think it's going to have a pat, tear-jerking ending.
A couple of things that bugged me: Mia and Lexi meet on the first day of 9th grade for both of them, but Lexi already know the ropes of being the new kid in high school? Lexi has bad teeth, but the school golden boy falls in love with her at first sight? Come on . . .

Troubled teen Lexi, who is emotionally mature despite being parentless and abandoned befriends a set of extrovert/introvert twins who seem on the surface to live a charmed life. The twins are controlled by 'helicopter Mom' Jude who withholds love and manipulates to get what she wants. Tragedy hits and Jude loses the plot until she learns from saintlike Lexi (almost overnight in the final chapters) how to forgive. An interesting perspective on grief, a well written beach read.

While reading this book and finishing it, I feel as though I've been through an emotional rollercoaster. My whole body ached and tears filled. I love this book so much. This book was so character-driven and I feel that just about anybody could relate to someone in the story. I would recommend this book for anyone over 17 years + as it talks about different aspects of young love and high school and how mistakes can happen in an instant. I'm a 35 year-old woman and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a page turner beginning to end. I love that the setting for this book is in Western Washington.

Not for young readers. Descriptive love making. Well written but not entertaining.

I found the writing simplistic and the plot line was shallow. This is a morality tale aimed at a young adult reader, albeit from the point of view of the helicopter mother. A real eye-roller.

I was not a big fan of this book...it was repetitious...not to give anything away the ending was a tear jerker...will try reading her earlier books

This is a book of mistakes, one right after the other! No matter how tight the apron strings are tied, you cannot live your children's lives for them and it is wrong to try. There were times i couldn't stand Jude. Had she taught her twins to work, to be self-reliant, to soar like eagles this story would have been sooo different! But her mother made her the fragile emotional cripple that she was. Lexi's mother was the extreme opposite and no less an emotional cripple. In a word this book is melancholy!

This is a very intense book. If you have kids in Middle School or High School, you should read this and then have them read it. I know it is fiction, but it is based on real events.
I would rate it PG-13
