An okay read that could have been great. Clunky predictable prose & convenient, not credible coincidences pepper the plot with plenty of half baked characterizations. The most interesting characters in this novel about a primatologist whose lab, focused on studying the language capacity of bonobos, is blown up. If Gruen had focused more of her attention on the appealing personalities of the great apes, and less on silly plot twists involving cliched Russian strippers, pornographers, cut-throat journalists and vegan animal rights activists, this would have been a compelling novel.
