This was my introduction to the work of Jonnie Jacobs and I found Paradise Falls a riveting suspense novel difficult to put down. A second teenage girl in five months goes missing in a small town usually noted for its low crime rate. The investigation seems to stall with no leads, no bodies, scanty evidence when suddenly everything seems to break and suggests a surprising criminal. The lead investigator finds herself more personally involved with the crimes and the families of the victims than she would like. The plotting is complicated as are all the characters, their circumstances and relationships. Jacobs wraps up the case with an ending also complicated as well as surprising, but thoroughly satisfying.
