This is a gritty, low budget, cult classic that sprung up from the 80s hardcore punk era of Black Flag, The Stooges, Circle Jerks, etc. If you're tuned in to those bands you'll love this film despite its confused ending. The hand held, guerilla style camera work gives you a gut level feel of the LA streets; it almost has the feel of documentary. But it also has a really good story that young people can identify with as well, especially proletariat kids who are forced to fend for themselves after leaving high school and entering the work world. Punk rock's psychedelic, chaotic inner life merges successfully with the hyper realism of this movie and produced a classic that is being watched 32 years later. Five stars despite the garbled ending.
