My expectations were not low for this movie, but nor were they high. With Paul Schrader directing and Easton Ellis writing the script I knew it would be a worthwhile 90 minutes. And it is. The relationship between failed actress and now kept woman Tara, and the spoiled trust fund baby in Christian, is really fascinating to watch. Also fascinating is seeing the monster slowly coming out in Christian when another couple becomes part of their circle and throws Chris into a downward spiral of anxiety and jealousy. And it also helps that the actors are good. Not great, but good. Lohan proves she still has what it takes to be on the silver screen, and if she gets her act together, she might be able to make a comeback in Hollywood. James Dean was the real surprise. Being an actor in porn movies probably isn't the best training ground for actors, but he pulls off his role well, and will hopefully be in more movies. And it might help his legitimate career that he is perfectly comfortable doing full frontal male nudity, which is very rare in Hollywood movies. And he sure does look good doing the full frontal scenes! This flick isn't destined to be a classic, but it IS good, so give it a try.
