I'll Be Gone in the Dark

One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer

I had to see what all the fuss was about, since this book has been in the headlines and on the holds shelf so much lately. The author chronicles the rapes and murders committed by the Golden State Killer in the late 1970s, and in so doing aptly communicates the terror he imposed across California. (I found myself locking and double checking that I'd locked my doors, and jumping at any sounds I heard in the night.) I'm not big on true crime and don't enjoy being creeped out, but I did like how the author wove her own narrative into her telling of the story. Anyone who likes true crime will probably like this book, while I myself need to read something that restores my faith in humankind now. :)
