THis was one of the most beautiful movies I had ever seen, I was taken to see it when I was 10. A lot went by me, but I came to understand it over the years. I have the book and had read that, and have the VHS thank goodness. When I first saw it the father figure frightened me, and the older sister was courageous for shielding her younger brother to the realities of the fathers actions. I didn't , however understand her coldness, just that I'd have to say she was very strong. The Aboriginie character was a lifesaver, but I didn't like what happened to his character, although as an adult I figured out the why of it. That haunted me for years. Still I wish they hadn't portrayed him that way. Its a beautiful story, you have to see it.
