Juneteenth: Resources for Adults
1 user likes thisJuneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, is an American holiday celebrated annually on June 19th. On this day in 1865, Union General Granger read orders in Texas notifying enslaved people that they were now free. Those freedoms had come with the Emancipation Proclamation, which became law in January 1863; however, enslaved persons in Texas did not become aware of their freedoms until two and a half years later.
